Week One Parent Guide

Rally One: Z is for Zeal

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Welcome to the 42-Week Journey at W3 Connect – Where We Teach What’s Been Forgotten.

This Week’s Focus:

Word of the Week: Zeal

Definition: Zeal means great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause, goal, or mission.

Kid-Friendly Meaning: Zeal is when you’re super excited and give your all to something that matters to you—like helping a friend, learning something new, or standing up for what’s right.

Sentence Example:
With great zeal, Jay woke up early, packed his bag, and said, “I’m ready to learn something big today!”

Why It Matters:
Zeal helps us push through hard things with energy and purpose. It’s how we make our passions powerful, and it’s how leaders—young and old—light a fire for good change in their world.

What Your Child Will Experience:

What We Need From You:

Reflection Question for the Family:

“What does it mean to be a good leader in our home, on the road, and in the world?”

Rally One Walking Challenge:

If you’re able, walk with your child this week. A lap around the block. A walk to the mailbox. They’ll remember it more than you think.

Why This Week Matters:

This week sets the tone. Your child is watching everything—how you speak to a bus driver, how you handle a stressful line, how you take responsibility. This is the curriculum. And you’re not just a parent—you’re a teacher, too.

🎨 Arts & Awareness Project:

This week, help your child practice telling the difference between letters, numbers, and symbols that can look alike—like N vs. 0, 0 vs. O, and Q vs. 0. Understanding these differences is an important step in literacy and numeracy. Make it fun! Create flash cards, matching games, or an art piece that uses these shapes creatively so they can remember them in context.

☀️ Heat Advisory & Hydration Reminder:

Don’t forget your water bottles! Another great way to show your personality is with stickers—since you can’t put them on your Chromebook, put them on your water bottle or notebooks instead. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and keep learning.

🎵 Music Note:

Big shout-out to KBACH 89.5—the only radio station that plays just music without lyrics. Classical music is good because it’s meant to move the spirit, not the body, and it brings peace to the mind. Tune in, or use streaming services like Spotify to listen to music that inspires learning and creativity. This world is in need of therapy—and classical music is one way to find it.
